With the spread of Covid-19, the Sports Minister, Roxana Maracineanu, announced yesterday the measures taken regarding the sports schedule.
The case of the cycling race, which is to be held from March 8 to 15, was also mentioned by the minister. She proposes the continuation of Paris-Nice. “It is indeed an international event, but most of the teams have been tested and there is little public along the course. We have planned for a maximum of 3,000 people in Nice, and the race does not pass through high-risk areas in France.”
She reminds again that the situation is evolving and that “prefects and mayors remain free to apply stricter measures.”
Roxana Maracineanu emphasized studying sports events on a case-by-case basis. “There are no specific criteria” for canceling a sports event. “We need to look at what is happening in the regions where the events are taking place.”
However, it is necessary to respect the two criteria retained at the national level: the cancellation of events with more than 5,000 people in confined spaces, and those concerning outdoor gatherings deemed risky.
In the latter case, the decision to cancel an event rests with the prefect.
