On the occasion of the opening of the Cannes Film Festival, the Alpes-Maritimes Côte d’Azur Film Commission, the Nice Côte d’Azur Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Côte d’Azur Regional Tourism Committee presented the 2013 report of their coordinated actions in the cinema and audiovisual sector.
A land of images and a true film set, the Côte d’Azur hosted, in 2013, the shooting of 9 feature films, 10 TV series and 58 commercials:
In terms of numbers, filmmakers set up their cameras for 152 days in the Alpes-Maritimes, generating 6,880 overnight stays in the region’s accommodation establishments and €10,735,000 in direct economic benefits.
Television shootings were also welcomed with 22 fiction works for 200 shooting days (Sections de recherche, Trotta, le Passager, Gomorra, en avant les champions…), 23 documentaries (147 shooting days), and 60 entertainment or reality TV shows (280 shooting days).
Advertising also remained significant in terms of shoots with 58 commercials, 520 filming days, and over €14 million in direct financial inputs.
In total, there was a 26% increase in filming days on the Côte d’Azur, totaling 2,046 filming days overall, which generated €33.5 million in direct financial inputs and more than 30,000 overnight stays.
This activity also highlights the skills of local businesses. Indeed, the Nice Côte d’Azur Chamber of Commerce and Industry – through the European program Creative Companies in Alpine Space (CCALPS) – has structured a true local “image and audiovisual industry sector,” capable of meeting the needs of shoots attracted by the Film Commission, and also generating projects specific to the Côte d’Azur. Thus, the 420 companies in this sector generate €231 million in turnover for 1,400 jobs (data from the Sirius economic observatory – 2013).
This sector now benefits from dedicated support from the Nice Côte d’Azur Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which offers companies professional meetings and training adapted to their needs.
