For 9 years, May 27 has been a symbol of unity.
In the afternoon, at the Jardin de Thรฉole where dedicated monuments are situated, representatives of the State, local authorities, and veterans paid tribute to this emblem of resistance and unity.
The date of May 27 refers to the first meeting of the National Council of Resistance (CNR) which took place on May 27, 1943, in the apartment of Renรฉ Corbin, on the first floor of 48 rue du Four in Paris. As a delegate of General de Gaulle, Jean Moulin aimed to establish this council to unify the often disorganized and isolated Resistance movements and to coordinate the action of the Resistance. Under Jean Moulinโs chairmanship, the National Council of Resistance brought together representatives of the eight major resistance movements, the two major pre-war unions, as well as representatives of the six main political parties of the Third Republic.
After the Liberation, the Resistance action program, known as โLes jours heureuxโ (The Happy Days), was published in 1944 and led to the implementation of economic, social, and political reforms prioritizing access to education for all and laying the foundations of the French social model. It also inspired the drafting of the preamble to the Constitution of the Fourth Republic, which is part of the fundamental texts of our current law.
