This Thursday, February 13, Mr. Eric Ciotti, Member of Parliament, President of the General Council of Alpes-Maritimes, and Antonio Saitta, President of the Province of Turin, President of the general assembly of the Franco-Italian Alps Conference (C.A.F.I.), will hold a meeting focused on the defense and sustainability of the Nice-Turin and Vintimille-Turin railway lines.

train_roya-4.jpg This mobilization meeting, under the aegis of C.A.F.I., will bring together communities on both sides of the border, the Regions of PACA, Piedmont, and Liguria, the General Council of Alpes-Maritimes, five other French departments, the Principality of Monaco, three Italian provinces, institutional operators RFF, RFI, SNCF, and Trenitalia, as well as urban entities and the Franco-Italian municipalities concerned by the lines.

Together, they will notably discuss the financing of urgent works to be undertaken on the French section, between the south of Breil-sur-Roya and the Col de Tende, which has suffered from a lack of maintenance for many years. This meeting will also be an opportunity to revisit the project to revise the 1970 international convention that governs this section of lines.

Let us recall that the Nice-Turin and Vintimille-Turin lines provide a cross-border connection between these major cities.

With the support of all the General Councilors of Alpes-Maritimes, Eric Ciotti immediately committed to the sustainability of these lines, particularly the French section, a true historical route and heavily traveled in the Roya Valley, whose disappearance could have dramatic economic and social consequences for the valley and our department.
