Yesterday at the Port of La Darse in Villefranche-sur-Mer – Charles Ange Ginésy, President of the Alpes-Maritimes Department, launched the partnership between the Department and the sailor Alexia Barrier with the aim of participating in the 2020 Vendée Globe.
For nearly 15 years, the Alpes-Maritimes Department has been involved in the Vendée Globe, the famous solo and non-assisted around-the-world race.
Following a successful partnership with skipper Jean-Pierre Dick, it is the turn of Azurian sailor Alexia Barrier to take up the mantle and represent the Department at the start from Les Sables d’Olonne in November 2020.
Before starting the 2020 Vendée Globe with her monohull moored at the Port of La Darse in Villefranche-sur-Mer, Alexia will engage in famous offshore races, including the Route du Rhum on November 4 from St-Malo, and the Transat Jacques Vabre at the end of 2019.
A committed competitor, she has agreed as part of the partnership with the Alpes-Maritimes Department to be the GREEN DEAL ambassador and also spokesperson for the association 20,000 Lives, to raise awareness about life-saving actions.
