“We are in the knowledge society. I am launching this school year with the same hope and responsibility, because today’s school shapes tomorrow’s citizens.”
It is with this commitment that Charles-Ange Ginesy presented, in the presence of elected officials and collaborators, the new school year which sees the Department, responsible for 92 active middle schools in the territory, at the forefront.
This school year maintains the course of an ambitious departmental policy in favor of middle schools, which includes €45.49 million in investment in public and private sectors, €34 million for the operation of public and private institutions.
The priority is the use of quality products with the “06 at the table!” project and the development of a platform for sourcing fresh local products: providing as many middle schools as possible with fresh and local fruits and vegetables (GREEN Deal).
Innovative middle schools responding to new digital uses.
To implement it in the 92 middle schools of the Alpes-Maritimes for just over 49,000 students, significant resources are mobilized.
A 2018 budget of €74.1 million (€29.5 million for the Education, Sports, and Culture Directorate (DESC), €44.6 million for the Property and Construction Directorate (DCIP)): €44.7 million in investment, €29.4 million in operation, including more than €11.1 million for operating allocations.

The continuation of the Future Middle Schools Plan
The Future Middle Schools Plan is a considerable effort (€540 million) dedicated to 70 operations.
This school year marks the completion of major achievements:

The extension-restructuring of Bréa middle school in St-Martin-du-Var (€10 million), with the restructured kitchen to be delivered at the end of 2018, and to be operational by the 2019 school year;
In addition to these works, the Department is acting in favor of the schooling of disabled children through the funding of 25 itinerant AESH (support for students with disabilities, formerly AVS) who enable nearly 150 disabled students each year to benefit from continuous education in a school setting.
The Departmental Security Plan for Middle Schools
€6.5 million has been mandated for all the works of the Plan.
Launched in 2016, the security plan notably includes strengthening school enclosures (fences, gates, shutters), enhancing video protection and alarm and alert systems.
All public institutions were equipped with “attack alert” sound systems at the end of 2016 and early 2017, and all alert buttons were distributed.
Constant support for private education
The investment aid envelope under the Falloux law amounts to €791,000 in 2018 (while many municipalities in France have disengaged) to enable the 19 institutions that wish to invest. €4.45 million in 2017 for operation (external package).
The deployment of new technologies in the service of education
In the middle schools of the Alpes-Maritimes there are:
10,500 computers (PCs), or 1 for every 4 students;
2,700 video projectors (1 per classroom);
650 interactive whiteboards (7 per school);
81 out of 92 middle schools equipped with a Digital Workspace (ENT) (1 million connections per month).

For over 7 years, the Alpes-Maritimes Department has been experimenting with tablets in schools.
In total, for this school year, 1,900 tablet computers are made available to students and teachers in the middle schools for an investment of €732,000.
The departmental council currently manages a stock of 6,400 tablets in public and private middle schools in the department.
