Yesterday, as part of the national day of mourning, Bernard Gonzalez, Prefect of Alpes-Maritimes, and Charles Ange Ginésy, President of the Alpes-Maritimes Department, paid tribute to Valéry Giscard d’Estaing, former President of the Republic, who passed away on December 2nd.

The authorities and the entire departmental assembly gathered on the forecourt of the Hôtel du Département and observed a minute of silence.

Charles Ange Ginésy wanted to recall the figure of the former President of the Republic: “On this day of national mourning, together with the Prefect of Alpes-Maritimes, the elected officials and the staff of the Department, we honor the memory of the one who profoundly changed the face of France […] Our country has lost with him a great servant, of extraordinary intelligence, a forerunner of close communication with all French people.”
