While the implementation of the Health Pass has come into effect for leisure and cultural venues gathering more than 50 people, and many festivals and cultural events are being canceled in France due to the difficulties caused by the system, Charles Ange Ginรฉsy, President of the Alpes-Maritimes Department, is maintaining the Summer Evenings. A flagship cultural activity for the life of towns and villages this summer.
In 2020, 400 shows attracted more than 200,000 spectators. 460 shows are scheduled, with 90% of the artistic ensembles coming from the Alpes-Maritimes.
However, this decision is not neutral concerning health safety: The municipalities responsible for hosting the Summer Evenings will have to choose between two firm recommendations to fully comply with the Health Pass system:
- either holding the Summer Evening in an outdoor open public space with fewer than 50 spaced seats
- or the municipality’s desire to have a higher capacity in a defined space allowing for the control of the spectators’ Health Pass.
