The Alpes-Maritimes Department is partnering with two historical partners โ the Antoine Lacassagne Center and the Alpes-Maritimes Cancer League โ to create the Departmental Cancer Institute, a first in France.*
The mission of this Institute will be to support each patient and their relatives throughout the stages before (prevention), during, and after cancer, by offering comprehensive and personalized care.
For Charles Ange Ginรฉsy: “The fight against cancer is a mission in which all forces must commit for the long term, with maximum efficiency: the goal of the Institute we are creating, an unprecedented structure in France, is to facilitate the health journey and life path of patients.”
In France, more than 3.8 million people live with or have lived with cancer. Each day, around 1,000 new cases are diagnosed. In the Alpes-Maritimes, approximately 40,000 patients were being treated for cancer in 2020.
A public health challenge, cancer, which encompasses more than 100 diseases, is expected by experts to continue increasing.
Each stakeholder will contribute to the development of this innovative healthcare cooperation model:
The Alpes-Maritimes Department will handle the building aspect by providing a site at least 800 mยฒ in size, allowing for the consolidation of all activities.
The Antoine Lacassagne Center will develop remote specialty consultations (information, orientation, management of side effects…), which can be linked to supportive care and also focus on specific prevention and screening strategies.
The Cancer League will enhance and expand its patient and family support mission at this site.
A location is currently being sought in Nice and the surrounding area for its establishment. It is scheduled to open in September 2022.
