One cherry pulls the other, says the proverb. For some students (those from Nice high schools), it was the second time in the same week – last Monday they had already been subjected to a similar sermon from the mayor of Nice – that they listened to the dull speeches of politicians. The President of the Departmental Council pulled out all the stops with noble quotes – “Replace birthright privileges with merit, allow everyone to rise to the best of their abilities: that was indeed the essence of the thinking of Jules Ferry, founder of the republican and secular school system. It favored, for decades, the success of students and the social advancement of young people from disadvantaged backgrounds.”
But at 18… once, twice, it’s just a minor inconvenience if afterwards you head to the counter to collect the reward for good academic results, in this case, an excellent result.
200 euros from the City of Nice – which under certain conditions can rise to 600 euros with regional contributions – 200 euros from the department… the holidays look very cheerful! And so much the better!
