This young departmental council offers 54 fifth-grade students the opportunity to propose reflections on themes that echo current issues. Therefore, 27 girl/boy pairs, elected through a two-round pair voting system by their peers, each representing a district of the department, will begin their journey in active democracy over these two years. The 54 young people have been informed, “the two years [they will] experience within this parliament will be extraordinary,” as stated by Maxime, patron of the 2020-2022 cohort and former young departmental councillor in 2016.

This assembly was also an opportunity for the young councillors to choose one of the two committees in which they can work on implementing and realizing their projects.

The first commission, health, solidarity, and equality, chaired by Ania Mokhby from the Cannes 2 district, is focused on food. Its aim is to consider combating waste and promoting good eating habits. The second commission, environment, digital technology, and living environment, chaired by Victor David from the Nice 4 district, is oriented towards artificial intelligence. It will adopt a pedagogical approach, enabling students to discover and experiment with artificial intelligence, while also making it more accessible to young people.

At the end of this assembly, David, the president of the second commission admitted being “very proud to represent this role,” while Ania described the experience as “unforgettable.”
