Every year in France, 50,000 people lose their lives due to cardiac arrest. The only chance for survival for a cardiac arrest victim is to receive defibrillation within minutes of the incident.

For every minute lost, there is a 10% decrease in the chance of survival. Therefore, the availability of defibrillators and training in life-saving techniques are essential in addressing this public health issue.

In light of this, the city of Nice, the association “20 000 Vies” (founded by Claude Mariottini and Philippe Soussi), and Cardiostim/EHRA-Europace (an international congress on cardiac electrophysiology) have decided, in addition to equipping public places with defibrillators (Nice has 159), to mobilize by implementing an educational program for life-saving skills training among young people in schools.

The three partners have already trained nearly 2,500 fifth-grade elementary school students in Nice.

Teachers, school principals, and many fifth-grade classes are involved in this initiative, which will continue until the period of the Cardiostim/EHRA-Europace congress, from June 8 to 11, where students from a class will be invited to share their knowledge with global experts in electrophysiology and cardiac techniques. There will also be a pleasant surprise for the thousands of congress attendees…
