An avalanche occurred this Friday, March 2nd, in the early afternoon near the Col de la Cayolle in Estenc, in the municipality of Entraunes in the Alpes-Maritimes. It resulted in 4 casualties.
A group of 6 people, 5 hikers, and their guide set off around 10 o’clock for a skiing excursion. 4 people died, and 1 is injured, a woman. The guide who was supervising the group is safe and sound and was the one who provided the first aid.
The Prosecutor of the Republic of Nice has opened an investigation “for involuntary manslaughter.”
There were unanimous expressions of solidarity from the local authorities.
Renaud Muselier, president of the Region, expressed his “deep emotion” and “thanks the gendarmes and firefighters who intervened very quickly and for the great professionalism with which they took care of the two survivors.”
Charles-Anges Ginesy, president of the Departmental Council and SDIS 06, was “deeply shocked by the terrible tragedy” and commended the effectiveness of the rescue efforts.
“All my thoughts are with their families and loved ones,” is the message from Christian Estrosi, president of the Metropolis.
