Work is continuing and progressing on the West-East tram line that will connect the Port to the Nice Côte d’Azur airport and the Palais Nikaia. Municipal officials have assessed the situation and express their optimism: All forecasts are confirmed, and no obstacles have emerged to hinder the successful completion of the project.
While 2014 marked the deployment of preliminary work, 2015 will be the year of acceleration in the construction sites, and starting in January, all sectors will enter a new construction phase.

“We are on the right track, the funding is secured. There is no delay in the work,” says Alain Philip, general director of technical services in Nice, demonstrating optimism.

Alain Philip explains that the program for 2015 will be busy: “For the underground section, we are continuing the construction of diaphragm walls which will be completed by the end of January. By 2016, we will be able to start digging the tunnels.”
Philipe Pradal, deputy mayor, specifies, “The diversion work on the networks at the Garibaldi and Durandy stations will be completed by the end of May 2015. Those of the other stations will all be completed by the end of the year.”
On the surface section from Magnan to Paul Montel, preparations are underway. Anne Ramos, communications manager for the tramway project, explains, “These are recognition works but also archaeological diagnostics. From April, we will start network diversions.”
Traffic disruptions are expected until the end of the month at the Magnan intersection.
New trees for the city
“These works will lead to the removal of many trees. But we will replant more than there are today. Nice is a green city,” reassures Anne Ramos.
The official, who brilliantly serves as the communication front, welcomes the recent initiatives: “The people of Nice will all be able to express their views on the choice of tree species. Taking into account seasonal variations and their appearance, everyone can give their opinion.”
