The “Ecogestes Méditerranée” campaign, launched by the Métropole Nice Côte d’Azur since 2011, is committed to a policy in favor of sustainable development and environmental preservation. The aim is to raise awareness among recreational boaters directly at sea along the coasts, from Cap d’ail in the Alpes-Maritimes to Martigues in the Bouches-du-Rhône.
The objective is to promote practical and ecological actions to preserve the Mediterranean. Throughout the summer, sea outings in kayaks or zodiacs are organized to engage with recreational boaters on practices to adopt in response to environmental degradation for more sustainable boating. The themes covered by the Ecogestes campaign include anchoring, the management of gray and black water, as well as macro waste management, fishing, and even spearfishing.
With a heavily frequented coastline, the Côte d’Azur must learn how to preserve it. The campaign enables the self-management of the coastline by its inhabitants or its visitors, by proposing simple actions to remedy the damage done to the environment. Seen as the first step toward collective awareness, the “Ecogestes Méditerranée” campaign leads a fight supported by many associations and politicians, with a single goal: to safeguard the Mediterranean Sea.
