The number of category A job seekers registered with Pรดle emploi in France (excluding Mayotte) decreased by 1.3% in the second quarter of the year, bringing the total to 3,750,100, according to figures released this Tuesday by the Department for Research, Studies, and Statistics (Dares) of the Ministry of Labor. Over the course of a year, this figure has decreased by 14.8%.
In the second quarter, the decrease in category A is more pronounced among young people (-2.1% for those under 25) than among seniors (-0.3%).
Long-term unemployed remain the majority
The latest quarterly results, published at the end of April, reported a slight decrease in unemployment in the first quarter (-0.4%). Due to the impact of Covid-19, the year 2020 was marked by a 7.5% increase in the number of unemployed, with 265,400 additional registrants in the fourth quarter of 2020 compared to the same period in 2019.
