In line with the implementation of the MAPTAM* and NOTRe* laws, the azure towns will transfer, at the end of 2018, the responsibility for tourism to the Nice Cรดte d’Azur Metropolis (MNCA). This marks a new upheaval within local authorities.
What does this mean in practical terms? Currently, eighteen municipal tourist offices and six information points share the management of tourism promotion, but soon, a metropolitan center will solely manage the entire tourism offering. However, the future former information offices will remain as “open showcases.”
On Friday afternoon, during a press conference, the President of the MNCA, Christian Estrosi, did not hide his reluctance towards this change but decided to turn it into an advantage. “This decision should be seen as an opportunity to strengthen our metropolis and highlight its diversity of activities,” he emphasized. “We will pool all our resources to showcase our entire territory, from the Mediterranean to the highest peak of the Mercantour.”
Previously, some towns did not have any tool for promoting tourism. Thanks to this shift, they will inevitably become winners. “By law, we did not have the right to promote them,” Christian Estrosi explained. “From now on, they will benefit from the solidarity and equity that we wished for when creating the MNCA.”
As for the Nice Carnival, which has been organized by the Nice tourist office for the past twenty years, it will now be taken over by the municipality, similar to the Nice Jazz Festival.
