The election of representatives to the European Parliament is set in France for this Sunday, May 26.
The election takes place within a single constituency, re-established by law no. 2018-509 of June 25, 2018, concerning the election of representatives to the European Parliament, which amended law no. 77-729 of July 7, 1977, of the same name.
Representatives to the European Parliament are elected for five years and are eligible for re-election. The Parliament is completely renewed.
Of the 705 members that the European Parliament will have for the 2019-2024 term, 79 will be elected in France through proportional representation without split voting or preferential voting in a single electoral constituency.
If the United Kingdom is still a member of the European Union on July 2, 2019, the beginning of the 2019-2024 term, only 74 representatives will take office. The 5 additional representatives will take office at a later time, upon the United Kingdom’s actual exit.
