Precisely 9,406 newly positive cases were recorded in 24 hours. The day before, there were 9,843.
In the Alpes-Maritimes region, the percentage of positive cases per 100 tests is sharply increasing, reaching 7.6 this week (week 36) compared to 6 the previous week (week 35).
No drastic measures but a clear warning: Prime Minister Jean Castex called on the French public to act with “responsibility” on Friday afternoon following a defense council meeting.
He also confirmed the reduction of the isolation period to 7 days, down from the current 14 days, and lamented a “clear deterioration” of the epidemic situation.
For the time being, a new lockdown is not on the agenda. Three series of indicators must be considered to determine the virus’s progression and decide on a zone-specific lockdown:
An indicator of hospital bed capacity (the white plan was once again activated at the CHU in Nice as confirmed yesterday by the establishment’s director, Charles Guepratte)
Virological test results
An indicator of virus circulation
“We have three series of indicators” to decide on a potential reconfinement, explains Jean Castex: an indicator of “virus circulation,” indicators of “hospital bed capacity and particularly of ICU admissions,” and “the results of virological tests.”
