Yesterday, ESN Nice organized a welcome day for international students. On the agenda, a campus tour to motivate the troops, a gathering at the St Jean d’Angély campus, a short speech, and a promising evening ahead. That’s the Welcome Day, Nice style.
A welcome, yes, but what a welcome! For the new year, ESN Nice and its 25 volunteers went above and beyond. “It’s truly unfortunate that 20% of students in Nice are international and nothing exists to take care of them,” declares Peter Nanot, President of ESN Nice.
This is why an exceptionally comprehensive program awaits international students this semester. Besides the numerous partners the team managed to acquire in two months, new arrivals will benefit from sports events, movie nights, excursions, cultural visits, and nightlife every Friday will be organized (we didn’t say alcohol, we said parties…)
The Welcome Day
But for these foreign students, it all begins on February 1st. From 11:30 AM to 2 PM, the ESN team traveled across the city’s four main campuses to invite students to the evening conference. A success, as more than 130 people attended.
On-site, the entire staff was present, distributing Welcome Packs, primarily containing essentials for navigating a new city.
Followed by an enthusiastic speech where UNS student Vice-President Pierre Barone, the mayor’s representative Agnès Rampal, and ESN President Peter Nanot shared the microphone. An opportunity for newcomers to learn more about the association and their stay.
A “speech” full of good humor and humor, concluded with a choreography by the entire team, which, though not of professional level, elicited laughter throughout the amphitheater.
The evening continued with a buffet at the St Jean d’Angély campus and proceeded to the bar La Perle, at the port, for an integration party.
