The Europe of Tomorrow: Erasmus Scholarships of the European Union

Latest News

The Erasmus program, launched in 1987, is the first major European program in higher education. The Erasmus program of the European Union provides students enrolled in a European institution with financial assistance to carry out studies or an internship lasting from 3 to 12 months in another European country.

The budget allocated to Erasmus has been increased. From 950 million euros for the period 2000-2006, it has risen to 3.114 billion euros for the new programming period.

French higher education institutions sign inter-institutional agreements with other European higher education institutions.

All institutions participating in Erasmus hold an Erasmus University Charter awarded by the European Commission. Today, all universities in France participate, as well as many higher education institutions.

It is the educational institution that organizes the exchange. Interested students should contact the international relations department of their institution. Studies undertaken abroad are integrated into the student’s university curriculum, and ECTS credits allow for full recognition of mobility.

The Erasmus program also allows for internships abroad. From the first year (and up to the doctorate), students can undertake an internship period within a European company lasting from 3 to 12 months.

The mobility period is recognized as part of the diploma, whether it is national or listed in the national directory of professional certifications. Before leaving, the student must sign an internship agreement with the university and the host company.
