In 120 days, the ceremony for the next European Masters Games will take place, held from October 1 to 11, 2015, in Nice. A major international competition recognized by the IOC and dedicated to athletes over 35 years old, it will feature 27 sports disciplines and 7 para-sports open to everyone worldwide.
Even though it is difficult to know the exact number of registrants, which would be around 5,000 according to our sources, what can be said is that there is significant activity around the organization of the European Masters Games, with prestigious partnerships with national and local entities (CPAM, SNCF, Italian Chamber of Commerce in Nice…) as well as an increased presence at all local and national sporting events.
In terms of sports, the events of the different disciplines will sometimes be complemented by highlight events such as the European Masters Handball Championship which will take place alongside the EMG tournament or a round of the World Cup of Sports Dance happening with the official competitions.
The EMG will not just be a series of tournaments, contests, or competitions since Sport/Health will be at the heart of the event whether through a conference cycle in partnership with UFR Staps or through the CPAM’s presence at the games village with prevention and health actions.
However, a large sporting event such as the European Masters Games cannot happen without a network of volunteers who will be the backbone and the primary ambassadors of the games during the competition. Everything seems well-prepared to welcome thousands of participants to the European veterans’ games in Nice, and with a minimum age set at 35 years (25 years for swimming, triathlon, road racing, and sports dance), there is no doubt that many athletes, sports enthusiasts, or teams will be interested in an international competition recognized by the IOC under the autumn sun of the Côte d’Azur’s capital.
