The European Night of Museums…in music

Latest News

During the “European Night of Museums 2016”, museums and galleries will be open to the general public and offer nighttime visits with an original approach.

A unique Saturday evening that allows you to discover your museums differently. For this edition under the theme “Museums in Music,” the teachers and students of the Nice Conservatory have been particularly involved.

Provenรงal music at the Palais Lascaris, a large guitar ensemble for a program of Spanish and film music, and 16 saxophones at the Theater of Photography and Image, 40 cellos at the Museum of Fine Arts, everything about Roman music from antiquity at the Museum of Archaeology… in total, 10 venues will embrace the magic of the night.

Here are also our two favorites:

A world premiere in the gardens of Villa Massรฉna

In the southern gardens of Villa Massรฉna, composer Michel Redolfi has imagined “Charlotte’s Gardens,” a whimsical and turbulent opera, the highlight of the Charlotte Salomon “Life? or Theater?” exhibition. This spatialized concert is a world premiere.

In the lounges of Villa Massรฉna, in echo to the exhibition “Nice the Departure of Glory,” airs of the Empire will be performed by the Napoleonic Memory Choir.

Journey to the 22nd Century Stars at MAMAC

Artist Renaud Auguste-Dormeuil will present “I Will Keep a Light Burning,” a performance visible from the forecourt of the National Theater of Nice and the terraces of MAMAC.

This ephemeral work will open a breach in time representing the sky as it will be visible in one hundred years. Lit gradually throughout the evening, the candles will slowly reveal this constellation of the future. In total, a thousand candles reproducing the starry sky will be installed by the artist (with the support of the Friends of MAMAC association).
