The Azurean event, organized since 2002, marks its 18th edition of Europétanque, which will take place from Saturday, July 20, to Monday, July 22.
Europétanque is a great popular festival that gathers nearly 3,000 pétanque players from 20 different nations and thousands of spectators. It is the most endowed pétanque competition in France, with more than 45,000 euros in prizes for the players.
The program of this international pétanque competition — which will be played at the Gé Gallaratto and Henri Bernard Boulodromes in Nice, along with game areas set up at the headquarters of Nice Matin — always includes 5 traditional contests:
- the main contest,
- the “Malatesta” contest (consolation),
- the National women’s contest,
- the youth contest,
- and precision shooting.
Since 2018, the main contest is no longer played by direct elimination but with a group-stage system in the 1st round, ensuring each team plays at least 3 games.
The 6th edition of the precision shooting qualifying contest
Since 2014, a precision shooting qualifying contest with the help of the departmental pétanque committee presided over by Bernard CONSONNOVE has been held. The launch was conducted in Cantaron on Friday, March 15, and will be followed by 8 other dates. The traditional departmental final at the DUC will take place in Nice on June 28, 2019.
Each year this event is a tremendous success with over 500 participants across all stages. Only 8 shooters will advance to the precision shooting contest of Europétanque des Alpes-Maritimes.
Open for Handi-valid Pétanque
This competition gathers teams each year in June that are composed of a physically disabled person, a mentally disabled person, and a non-disabled person.
The big “Pétanque Seniors 06” day
This will be the 4th edition of this departmental pétanque contest open to amateurs over 55 years of age residing in the Alpes-Maritimes. It will be held on July 22, and around 400 people will participate.
