The Departmental Museum of Wonders in Tende presents the exhibition “It’s a Great Mystery” from July 3 to March 31, 2016. An exploration into a unique archaeological heritage, highlighting the engravings of Mont Bego and revisiting the biographies of those who discovered them.

Inspired by the book “It’s a Great Mystery” by Franรงoise Riniรฉri, the exhibition, organized by the Museum of Wonders, seeks to introduce the public to the various engraving sites in the Mont Bego region and the mystery surrounding them. Divided into six chronological spaces, the exhibition features original documents, photographs, archaeological and ethnological objects presented as a “cabinet of curiosities.”

The main characters who discovered the Valley of Wonders will be presented to the public through reconstructions of each archaeologist’s “work cabinets,” complete with period furniture and everyday objects in a scientific work setting. Visitors will be able to read the biographies and view a slideshow of the scholars’ faces projected onto the molding of the “tribal chief” stele at the back of the exhibition room.

A unique exhibition that sheds light on the ancient, sometimes mythical, knowledge of the mysterious engravings of Mont Bego. The history of these adventures and the fascination with the Valley of Wonders, with the end of “discoveries” in the sixties, and the presentation of contemporary interpretations and theories regarding the engravings.
