The exhibition of Bernard Massini’s collection at the Maeght Foundation

Latest News

The Maeght Foundation is an exceptional place nestled in nature, dedicated, according to the wishes of its founders, to the creation of the arts. It boasts one of the most important collections in Europe of modern art paintings, sculptures, drawings, and graphic works from 20th-century and contemporary artists.

fondation_maeght.jpg But temporary exhibitions are also organized there. Such is the case currently for the collection of Bernard Massini, a neurosurgeon and collector from Nice.

A first because the collector from Nice had never before presented to the public the artworks of forty years of activity!

And what about the experts and authorities? None, and how many other Massinis remain anonymous while the general public could enjoy their passion by sharing it with pleasure?

Permanently exhibiting private collections: Here may lie a path to explore for the New Blood project, still in the interstellar void of a plan that remains stagnant.

But back to the exhibition, it presents paintings, sculptures, and drawings, some of which are large format.

70 works out of the 450 available in the entire collection are on display until March 17. The 36 artists presented are among the most talented from the national and international contemporary scene.

A few names? Denis Catellas, George Condo, Vincent Corpet, Marc Desgrandchamps, Valรฉrie Favre, Gรฉrard Garouste, Leon Galub, Anton Henning, Ronald Ophuis, Gรฉrard Panighi, Stรฉphane Pencrรฉacโ€™h, Joyce Pensato, Assan Smati, William Wegman, and Alun Williams, among others.

It was a pleasure to visit the exhibition in the company of Bernard Massini and the director of the Foundation, Olivier Kaeppelin (an intellectual with an impressive professional background), which allowed for a good understanding of the reason behind the exhibition’s title: E-motion.

This collection is the result of over forty years of research and choices: “Its common thread lies in a simple question: Can one conceive of human beings without mutual empathy?” concludes Bernard Massini.
