The exhibitions at the Municipal Archives of Nice

Latest News

From June 16 to September 21, an exhibition in the state rooms of the Marble Palace (now the seat of the Municipal Archives) will provide an evocation of the history of the Fabron hill, from the olive groves of banker Gastaud to the housing developments of the 1960s-1980s, through the architectural follies and exotic gardens of art lover Ernest Gambart, the Dukes of Saxe-Coburg, English MP George Bishop, perfumer François Coty, and Parisian antique dealer Edouard Larcade.

Watercolors, architect’s plans, and old photographs will be displayed: a selection of original works and documents from the 19th and 20th centuries from the collections of the Municipal Archives, the Masséna Museum, and the Romain Gary and Cessole libraries, which will interact with a commission from the Theater of Photography and Image to artist Stéphane Couturier (2012), in an exceptional setting.

Other cultural events are on the program:

On June 21 at 5 PM, a concert by the ensemble Quartissimo – Film music, jazz, tango, classical.

Conferences will take place on September 13 at 3 PM: Didier Gayraud, “Azure Residences.” The Villas of Fabron Hill; September 20 at 3 PM: Judit Kirali, Great Collectors in Nice in the 19th Century (Jaffé, Joubert, Gambart, Jakovsky…); and on September 21 at 3 PM: Véronique Thuin, When International Elites Were Interested in Fabron Hill.

Finally, an urban hike will take place on October 9 in partnership with the French Hiking Federation.
