The Failure of Christian Estrosi’s Political Strategy

Latest News

“A strategic economic plan: target 20,000 jobs” is not a recent government announcement, nor the new slogan of the MEDEF. It was simply one of Christian Estrosi’s electoral promises in his statement of intent for the municipal elections of March 2014.

Two years later, the unemployment figures are in, revealing a strong and rather disappointing trend. With a 3.6% increase in unemployment over one year in Nice, compared to 3.3% for the Alpes-Maritimes and 1.8% in Metropolitan France, the figures in Nice are poor, despite the commitments of the deputy-mayor-president.

Far from the grand declarations and eloquent speeches, these figures reflect the failure of an “economic strategy” that relies entirely on the “eco-valley” and the arrival of large brands.
