The farmers honored at the 2024 Agriculture Fair are celebrated during a ceremony. A fitting tribute to these ambassadors of the heritage and expertise from the Maralpin region.
The Department is proud of its farmers and demonstrated this by honoring them with this ceremony. Charles Ange Ginésy stated, “Today, the Alpes-Maritimes Department is once again proud of its farmers. Once again, it opens its doors to them and honors them for their unique expertise.” In total, our department won no less than 15 medals at the Agriculture Fair and 12 at the Brignoles Fair. The support given to the agriculture in our department is very important considering the complex situations that the farmers face. This is why signing this convention to promote agritourism is a solution to some of these problems.
The profession is in danger
In about ten years, our department will halve its number of working farmers. The average age of farmers in our area is almost 58 years, and in 8 years, the numbers will decrease alarmingly. Moreover, although this year the rain has adequately watered our lands, the water problem still exists. Just to properly irrigate the agricultural lands, half of the annual budget is spent. This partnership will provide easier access to the funding that is so critical in this profession. Jean-Philippe Frère announced, “This battle must be fought together to ensure our excellence endures.”
