The Federation of the County of Nice invites you to a conference “The Castle of Nice between the 14th and 18th Century โ€“ Current State of Research on the Site,” which will take place on Thursday, February 17 at 6:30 PM at the Le Bocal Theater, 6 Rue Prince Maurice in Nice.

The Federation of the County of Nice would be pleased to welcome you to a conference on “The Castle of Nice between the 14th and 18th Century โ€“ Current State of Research on the Site”. This conference will be held on Thursday, February 17, 2011, at 6:30 PM at the Le Bocal Theater.

Eric GUILLOTEAU, a PhD candidate in History and Archaeology, and specialist in fortifications, will be the speaker.

Theme of the Conference:

He will present the excavations carried out over the past three years at the site of the Castle Hill of Niceโ€”including the remains of the city’s old cathedralโ€”as part of the Joint Research Program led by Marc Bouiron, director of the archaeological service of the city of Nice.
You will discover the current state of knowledge of researchers regarding historical texts, iconography, and archaeological data that help understand the evolution of the fortifications of the castle of the counts of Provence, and the fortress of the dukes of Savoy between the 14th and 18th centuries.

Eric Guilloteau contributed to the “Science” section of the book “The Last Stronghold” co-written by Marc Bouiron and Fabrice Anfosso, on the fall of the Castle of Nice in the 17th century, published by Mรฉmoires Millรฉnaires editions.

This conference will be followed by an aperitif starting at 7:45 PM.
