For a long time, people were helpless in the face of the plague of epidemics. These events provoked contradictory reactions, from mass hysteria to the emergence of new fraternities, materialized by the Confraternities of Penitents.
The last one that left a mark in the collective memory of Nice is remembered negatively: it is the cholera which in 1832 threatened Nice and was warded off by the conjunction, as it was understood then, of divine intercession and human medicine.
This fear left a magnificent memory in stone, the Church of the Vow, and a tradition, the solemn procession.
This year the event will take place in the presence of Monseigneur Andrรฉ Marceau, the new bishop of Nice.
After prayer vigils on Thursday and Friday in the late afternoon, Saturday will offer an introduction with a festive aspect, while on Sunday, the more solemn tradition will lead the procession to the Church of the Vow for its renewal.
