As every year, the communists of the Alpes-Maritimes will be on the castle hill in Nice on June 25 and 26, 2011.
This Château festival, as usual, will be two days of debates, meetings, as well as musical moments and local specialties.
Elected officials, political leaders, union and association activists from the department, nationally and internationally, will be present for these two days of gatherings of the left-wing community.
An exceptional event in Nice.
Ahead of the Château Festival:
Meeting with Hamma Hammami, who is one of the guests of the Château Festival.
Hamma Hammami is one of the founders and leaders of the PCOT (Tunisian Workers’ Communist Party).
He is one of the symbols of a long resistance against the fallen regime of Ben Ali. He has been able to emerge from hiding since January 14 of this year.
Born in 1952, he is the spokesperson for a party that was clandestine for a long time. A professor of Arabic literature and civilization, he was very involved in underground journalism against the Ben Ali regime.
He was convicted several times and served prison sentences between 1972 and 1995.
He was again sentenced in absentia in 1999,…
The Alpes-Maritimes Federation of the French Communist Party is organizing an initial exchange on the occasion of his visit to Nice and France on FRIDAY, JUNE 24 at 6 p.m. at the FSGT hall, 27 rue Smolett in NICE (tram Acropolis).
Also, at the Château Festival on Saturday, June 25 at 6 p.m., Hamma Hammami will participate in a debate on “The Upheavals in Arab Countries”, with Wassyla Tamzali (Algerian feminist, former UNESCO director for women’s rights) and Pierre Barbancey, (senior reporter at l’Humanité who has covered the past events in Tunisia, Egypt, Libya, … these past months).
On this occasion, the Nice communists will officially declare their choice for the upcoming presidential elections, during which they will support Jean-Luc Mélenchon.
The goal for 2012: to get rid of Nicolas Sarkozy and open a left-wing alternative.
To achieve this, the communists of the Alpes-Maritimes are ready to take a new step with the Left Front.
After weeks of reflection and debate, the communists of the Alpes-Maritimes have voted massively to amplify the dynamics of the Left Front with a shared popular program, supported by the Left Front candidates in the legislative elections and Jean-Luc Mélenchon as the presidential candidate.
In the Alpes-Maritimes, out of the 610 communists who participated in the votes, 81% made this choice.
With this strong gesture of support for a candidate who is not a member of the PCF, the communists are choosing unity with the intention of challenging the established order, which is overly influenced by polls or personal quarrels.
