Following the controversy sparked by the regional councilor and local leader of the National Front, Philippe Vardon, regarding the economic impact related to tourism activity, the City Hall released the revenue figures (source DDFIP):
Over the 12 months ending in December 2017, compared to 2016, the accommodation sector (+11.76%) and the restaurant sector (+4.02%) maintained very satisfactory growth rates; overall, the growth of the Metropolis (+7.21%) is better positioned than at the departmental level (+4.40%).
This allows local officials to pass the ball back to Philippe Vardon: “These figures confirm the excellent work of all those who are truly dedicated to promoting tourism in this area. […] Through their success, they deliver a stinging rebuke to those who, like Philippe Vardon, when he claims to support economic actors, would prefer a decline that serves their sinister projects over a dynamic that benefits our entire territory.”
