The current site of the Théâtre de Nice hosted its final performance yesterday. A controversial new project was announced two years ago by Christian Estrosi, with future works estimated at 368 million euros (including the Acropolis and the extension of the green corridor).
The event provided opponents of its demolition an opportunity to have attendees sign a petition against the project decided by Mayor Christian Estrosi, which they consider to be extravagant.
On the side of the management of the Théâtre National de Nice, the outcome seems already determined.
With preliminary work on the TNN set to begin in the spring, the TNN teams had prepared for an inevitable relocation.
During her New Year’s wishes for 2022, the cultural institution’s director, Muriel Mayette-Holtz, reminded everyone that the “TNN is here, it is expanding, it is reaching out to all its audiences. It will continue to astonish you, always! Together passionately,” adding: “The tree that falls makes more noise than the forest that grows.”
The new dates and venues that will soon host the theatrical program are presented as an “off-site” season.
The Franciscans Hall – along with the Aigle d’or building dedicated to administrative teams – will be accessible on March 15. The new modular hall, with a capacity of 350 to 400 seats, already has a first show planned, headlined by Isabella Rossellini. She, the daughter of Ingrid Bergman, will inaugurate this new stage with “Le Sourire de Darwin” on April 26, 2022. A temporary theater, “La Cuisine,” with 600 seats, will be operational the day before this premiere.
In the city center, an “Iconic” hall will be inaugurated once the building is completed, near the Nice train station. Another hall with 800 seats is expected to be installed within 4 or 5 years, in the current Palais des Expositions.
