After hosting some of the greatest orchestras, traveling to Hungary and Japan, and celebrating its 30th anniversary last Sunday with a large festive gathering, the Printemps des Arts will conclude its 2014 edition with a 5th and final weekend!
The festival will begin with two “Off-Site” concerts, Thursday at Cap d’Ail and Friday at Beaulieu-sur-Mer, continuing with a major “Conservatories Meeting,” bringing together students from the Rainier III Academy of Monaco and regional conservatories, and the final part of the Haydn Portrait on Saturday with the Hermès Quartet, a highlight of the new generation. The festival will end on Sunday with a grand “Moroccan Day,” between traditional Berber dances and music…
OFF-SITE – CAP D’AIL | Thursday, April 10th
The first of two “Off-Site” concerts of this final weekend, this Thursday at Château des Terrasses in Cap d’Ail. Marie Vermeulin, a young French pianist whose musical sincerity surpasses effects, will perform “Estampes” by Claude Debussy, “Gaspard de la Nuit” by Maurice Ravel, and an excerpt from “Twenty Regards on the Child Jesus (Glance of the Son on the son, Glance of the Joyful Spirit)” by Messiaen. Already a great artist, the musician demonstrates with this program her affinity with French music, full of subtlety and colors.
The evening will begin with “The 3 Minutes of Martin Matalon,” performed by Askar Ishangaliyev, Vincent Lhermet, and Nathanaël Gouin.
OFF-SITE – BEAULIEU | Friday, April 11th
The Salons of the Rotonde Lenôtre in Beaulieu-sur-Mer will host the second “Off-Site” concert of the weekend this Friday, April 11th. Cellist Christian-Pierre La Marca, a discovery of the moment and proof that new generations can be as incredible as the great masters, will perform forgotten romances by Scriabin, Liszt, Rubinstein, and Rachmaninov. He will be accompanied by pianist Eric Le Sage.
Prior to that, the audience will discover “The 3 Minutes of Music by Jummei Suzuki,” a composer studying writing and composition at the University of Fine Arts and Music in Tokyo.
CONSERVATORIES MEETING & HAYDN PORTRAIT 4 | Saturday, April 12th
This Saturday, April 12th, more than a hundred students from regional conservatories and the Rainier III Music Academy will gather around six composers who have agreed to play their creations with these students. They will present the work done throughout the year under the guidance of composers in residence. The public will thus discover the creations of Michel Decoust, Franck Krawczyk, Jacques Lenot, Martin Matalon, Colin Roche, and Salvatore Sciarino during this festive afternoon at the Rainier III Auditorium.
In the evening, the Printemps des Arts will welcome the Hermès Quartet, one of the best formations of the new generation, to close the festival’s Haydn Portrait. This concert will offer a new journey into the intimate music of the master. The quartets “No.62 Emperor in C major, op.76 no.3” and “No.31 in B minor, op.33 no.1” will be performed. This latter work will be exceptionally played twice.
Opening the evening, cellist Askar Ishangaliyev will perform a creation by Ramon Lazkano during “3 Minutes of Music Before the Concert.”
MOROCCAN DAY | Sunday, April 13th
The “Moroccan Day” will close this 30th edition of the Printemps des Arts de Monte-Carlo.
