FACE 06 has just inaugurated France’s very first solidarity restaurant, aimed at students. All under the watchful eye of Frédérique Vidal, Minister of Higher Education.
Always the pioneers! The Federation of Student Associations and Corporations of Alpes-Maritimes (FACE 06) is behind the creation of France’s first solidarity restaurant. Located next to the premises of AGORAé, the solidarity grocery store created nine years ago, this restaurant is solely dedicated to students.
Given the current health restrictions, this community space cannot yet welcome visitors, but meals have nevertheless been distributed since last week. “Beyond getting a meal, the main goal is to find an extremely welcoming place”, explains Amaury Baudoux, president of FACE 06.
Many officials were present at the inauguration, including Frédérique Vidal. The Minister of Higher Education was delighted with her visit to Nice: “This is more than a grocery store, it’s a solidarity space. It’s a way for young people to help each other. I am extremely happy to be with you today.”
“We are fortunate to have these students”
Also present at the event, Christian Estrosi wished to congratulate the work of FACE 06. “What you are doing is absolutely fantastic, and we are lucky to have these students,” acknowledged the mayor of Nice. “I think of all those who feel like their twenties were stolen, and it’s a duty to stand by your side.”
Among other political representatives, Charles-Ange Ginésy, president of the Departmental Council of Alpes-Maritimes, also shared his “pleasure of being here”: “What you have initiated today will last into the future. There will be a continuation behind this initiative, and we are here to support you.”
The FACE 06 representatives presented the premises to the officials, before discussing the current situation of the students. The inauguration concluded with a moment of exchange between some students and the politicians present. One thing is sure: this first solidarity restaurant in France is a wonderful initiative, and it is expected to have a bright future ahead.
