With their Baccalaureate results in hand, the new graduates headed to the FISE. They were seeking advice on their orientation, housing, or the Nice urban transport network: the young graduates received answers to their questions. This student forum, organized by the Nice city hall in collaboration with the University of Nice Sophia Antipolis, primarily aims to provide these answers. Wandering through the aisles from stand to stand, we met Emmanuelle, who was inquiring at the CROUS. At 21, in her fourth year of medical studies and having achieved academic success, she is seeking a more comfortable base: “I came here to find housing. I stayed in a student residence last year, and my lease wasnโt renewed. I hope to quickly secure a roof over my head, so I donโt end up with nothing at the start of the new school year…”
Although the FISE is open to all students, it is largely dedicated to new high school graduates. Like Aurรฉlie, 18, who was happy to be done with high school: “I just got my L-literature Baccalaureate, and this forum allows me to explore my possible career paths but also to organize my entire new student life. Finding accommodation, completing all administrative procedures, which remains the most difficult to accomplish. Here, in just a few hours, I will be able to complete all the procedures that would normally take me the whole summer…”
โNice wants to become one of the largest university cities in France and Europe…โ Agnรจs Rampal, Deputy Mayor of Nice in charge of ICT, revealed the city hall’s future projects during the inauguration speech. The main focus of the municipalityโs higher education policy is to connect the nine university hubs scattered across the city to enable students to move around without cars. The start of the academic year will be an opportunity for Christian Estrosi and his team to announce measures in this direction.
Another change is that the organization of the FISE will be modified. It will no longer be held in July, as it is today, but in March, before the Baccalaureate exams. This will allow high school students to fully enjoy it over a week, following the example of Paris, Toulouse, or Montpellier.
