“The flavors of the palace” in Cannes

Latest News

After a weekend with “Les étoiles de Mougins”, Cannes will celebrate the second edition of the Fête de la Gastronomie, next Saturday, September 22, with an eventful evening. An unmissable event during the early days of autumn, this convivial and generous occasion will focus on the theme of products from the Azurean terroir.

The chefs of four 5-star hotels in Cannes are teaming up with the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès to celebrate local gastronomic know-how, combining the 7th art and culinary tradition.

On the occasion of this national event, the evening organized by the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès de Cannes offers a flavorful program, allowing attendees to discover, in the setting of the Cannes Film Festival, the latest film by Christian Vincent, with the evocative title: Les saveurs du Palais. The film will be screened as a prelude to the dinner cocktail prepared by four Cannes chefs.

The evening will revolve around several key moments, in the presence of actress Catherine Frot and Danièle Mazet-Delpeuch, who was the cook for President François Mitterrand from 1988 to 1990.

The ascent of the Steps at 7:00 PM will be followed by the film screening at the Grand Auditorium Louis Lumière at 8:00 PM, then a dinner cocktail at the Salon des Ambassadeurs starting at 9:30 PM.

The cocktail and the discovery of culinary creations

Nespresso will offer tastings and propose coffee-themed activities, while Pavillon Traiteur, also a partner of this evening, will coordinate the organization and service of the cocktail.

The film by Christian Vincent, “Les saveurs du Palais”

frot.jpg Hortense Laborie is a renowned cook living in the Périgord. To her great surprise, the President of the Republic (François Mitterrand) appoints her to handle his personal meals at the Élysée Palace. Despite the jealousy of the central kitchen’s chefs, Hortense stands her ground with her strong character. Her authentic cooking quickly charms the President, but behind the scenes of power, the obstacles are numerous…

This delightful comedy, directed by Christian Vincent, revolves around the unifying theme of French gastronomy, featuring a quality cast: Catherine Frot, Hippolyte Girardot, and Jean d’Ormesson, in his first cinema appearance as President Mitterrand.

Produced by Philippe Rousselet and Etienne Comar, producers of “Les Femmes du 6ème étage,” a huge hit in 2011 (2,274,327 admissions), the original screenplay is also by Etienne Comar, screenwriter of “Des Hommes et des Dieux” (3,204,170 admissions in 2010). Partly filmed at the Élysée, the film will offer spectators a chance to explore the kitchens of power.

According to David Lisnard, President of the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès, First Deputy Mayor of Cannes, delegate for tourism, and General Counselor of the Alpes-Maritimes: “Gastronomy is an essential element of French art de vivre, and cinema is a major art, deeply rooted in Cannes’ identity. We are very pleased to bring them together in such a symbolic way on the legendary stage of the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès. If the Élysée Palace harbors Christian Vincent’s comedy, the Palais in Cannes, after welcoming the G20 heads of state, now hosts representatives of French culinary art. This evening, under the banners of arts, conviviality, and tradition, is an opportunity to celebrate and highlight those who contribute to the international fame and high-quality gastronomy found in Cannes.”
