On the occasion of the release of the first volume of “La Fortune des Winczlav”, to be published by Editions Dupuis, Fnac Nice is organizing the temporary exhibition “Van Hamme & Berthet”, dedicated to the work of the two comic book authors.

The forum of meetings at the store will showcase around fifteen plates, illustrated by Philippe Berthet and scripted by Jean Van Hamme, from this prequel to the famous series Largo Winch. This exhibition will allow the public to delve into the early stages of the hero’s adoptive family’s rise, thanks to the collection of boards and sketches intended for the conception of the characters.

Born in Thorigny-sur-Marne in 1956, Philippe Berthet is a comic book author and illustrator. His style, exceptional among many, has earned him his reputation and success, supported by his mastery of lighting, framing, and meticulous documentation. Berthet has thus secured his place in the pantheon of comic books with notable albums such as “Sur la route de Selma” (with Philippe Tome), “Chiens de prairie” (with Foerster), “Pin-up” (with Yann), or the crime stories from the “Ligne Noire” collection. He became the author of an event series, as he now illustrates, based on a script by Jean Van Hamme, the story of Largo Winch’s ancestors in the trilogy “La Fortune des Winczlav”.

Born in Brussels in 1939, Jean Van Hamme initially worked as a commercial engineer. After a brilliant international career, he left his position at Philips-Belgium in 1976 to pursue his passion. A prolific author with countless successes, he is notably the creator of the series “Largo Winch” (Dupuis), “Thorgal” (Le Lombard), and “XIII” (Dargaud). In parallel, he writes film and telefilm scripts. In 2004, he returned with a new major adventure series at Dupuis with “Lady S.” With nearly 44 million albums sold, Jean Van Hamme is an icon of comic books.

Largo Winch, the must-see universe for comic book fans

Vanko 1848 marks the beginning of the new trilogy “La Fortune des Winczlav”, telling the story of the ancestors of the seductive billionaire by immersing the reader in a family saga set in 19th century America. This new project challenges the authors to combine their expertise and allows them to tackle the adventure spanning three generations.

This free event is open to the public in strict compliance with the imposed health measures, at the Fnac in Nice.
