The ceremony took place last Friday as part of the Centenary of Villa Masséna.
The heirs of Jean-Paul Barety have decided to donate to the City of Nice a significant portion of their family archives, numerous books from the library particularly related to the history of Nice, as well as remarkable works (portraits signed by Marcellin Deboutin, busts by Fabio Stecchi and Charles Cordier).
This very important donation enriches the collections of the City of Nice and continues the tradition of the attachment of illustrious Nice families to their city. It holds great interest for historians and researchers due to the unique pieces it contains, covering several centuries of our history. This donation also helps preserve the memory of the famous figures of this family from the County of Nice: Doctor Alexandre Barety, Minister Léon Barety, and Mayor Jean-Paul Barety, as well as the legacy of the lives of major Nice families in the 19th and 20th centuries.
These various exceptional documents and works have been integrated into the collections of the municipal archives, the municipal library, the Cessole library, and the Masséna Museum.
