-Presentation of a donation check for the rehabilitation of the Carmel region on Thursday, January 13, 2011, at 6 PM at the headquarters of the France-Israel Association
31, avenue Jean Médecin – 06000 Nice
-In early December 2010, Israel suffered a disaster of unprecedented scale, the Carmel forest fire, the deadliest in its history since the founding of the State of Israel in 1948.
42 people, most of them very young, perished in atrocious circumstances. The injured numbered in the dozens, and 17,000 residents of the Carmel region had to be evacuated. Hundreds of homes, buildings, infrastructure, and fields were completely destroyed. 5,000 hectares of Carmel’s forests, the most beautiful and most visited in Israel, 5 million trees, went up in smoke.
The costs for rebuilding homes, agricultural and tourist infrastructure, and reforestation will be very high and will take decades.
-The “EMERGENCY CARMEL” operation, aimed at centralizing the international aid fund collection, in response to mobilization actions worldwide, was officially entrusted by the Israeli government to KKL, the Keren Kayemet Le’Israel (Jewish National Fund), which will be responsible for the rehabilitation of the Carmel region and its reforestation.
-That is why Rudy SALLES, President of the France-Israel Nice Côte d’Azur Association, will present a donation check of 1,000 € to Mr. Bernard Rebibo, President of KKL Southeast, in order to show support and reaffirm solidarity with the residents of the Carmel region.
