Russia, its arts, economy, diaspora, and many other aspects have contributed to the construction of the Azur history. A community that has enhanced each nerve center comprising the Alpes-Maritimes, from Mandelieu to Menton, with its influence.
The culinary art is no exception to this rule of cultural sharing and the mingling of cultural and economic activities. From August 29 to November 27, Monaco, Nice, and Cannes will host a world-renowned event, the Franco-Russian Gastronomy Weeks.
At the end of 1862, a new kind of appointment emerged in Europe: a Gastronomic Week was organized between two cities, Saint Petersburg and Paris.
This event, a symbol of friendship and reconciliation between France and Russia, was particularly appreciated by writers Anton Chekhov and Ivan Turgenev. The Russian Gastronomy Week thus aims to reconnect with an ancestral tradition.
These exchanges gradually withered away until they were put on hold in 1912.
From this forced hibernation, it took 98 years to feel the breath of renewal knocking at the doors of the Azur capitals.
In 2010, a myriad of public and private partners then undertook to revive what was once a custom.
For this purpose, the (re)first edition took shape within the framework of the France-Russia year at the Hรดtel Crillon, a historic palace located on the Place de la Concorde in Paris.
To add even more value to the event, major platforms in the Southeast were selected to host a second edition that promises quality and, above all, accessibility to everyone.
With even more luxury world collaborators, it is an exceptional opportunity to discover Russian culture, its traditional dishes prepared by high gastronomy chefs working in pairs with illustrious French chefs.
Besides refined cuisine, it is a culinary journey through both old and modern Russia, which will compare techniques and also offer a unique perspective on the similarities and differences between the cuisines of the two countries.
The second edition of the Russian Gastronomy Weeks will begin in Cannes at the end of August and continue until November, passing through Nice and Monte Carlo. The jewels of French hospitality will thus be the ambassadors of “beautiful cuisine”. The event will conclude with a gastronomic walk in Paris at the end of November.
Additionally, numerous events will punctuate these festive and prestigious evenings.
Apart from haute cuisine dishes and noble products, guests can discover haute couture fashion shows in prestigious venues, taste exclusive and intoxicating beverages, or explore establishments that often hide architectural marvels.
To put it simply, this high-profile gastronomic exhibition will feature
a true tandem between a renowned Russian chef and a prestigious French chef.
From the same products, two ways to prepare them for a playful comparison of culinary cultures, a way to escape just a few steps from home without breaking the bank!
