The French (and Nice-based) socialists have chosen Olivier Faure as the party’s secretary.

Olivier Faure, president of the Socialist group in the National Assembly, will be the next Secretary of the Socialist Party. He received ~50% of the votes (partial results) against ~25% for the runner-up, Stรฉphane Le Foll. Much further behind were the two other marginalized candidates, Emmanuel Morel and Luc Carnouvas.

35,000 of the 102,000 registered party members went to the polls. There had been 70,000 during the previous election in 2015.

Formally, there must be a second vote on March 29, but Stรฉphane Le Foll has announced that he is withdrawing, leaving the path clear for the winner of this first (and final) round.

On the Nice front, the result is even clearer: Olivier Faure is said to have received 58/59% of the votes against ~20% for Stรฉphane Le Foll.

He was supported by Xavier Garcia (departmental secretary) and Paul Cuturello (municipal councilor), the two most representative leaders at the local level.

The federation 06 reports 230 voters, approximately 1/3 of the registered members of this party in decline after electoral setbacks and the rallying of many activists to En Marche, the distancing of Patrick Allemand, and, most recently, the departure of the “left wing” (Librati-Russo) for Hamon’s movement.

On March 29, the new departmental secretary will also be elected: members will have to choose between Xavier Garcia, the incumbent who is running again, and the outsider Dario Lutchmayah.
