Since 2008, the furniture, home, and decoration fair has adhered to the eco-event charter. During a conference at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Nice, the president of the fair, Jacques Kotler, presented the reports for the year 2010.
“We started taking action on ecology and sustainable development in 2008.” Three years later, Jacques Kotler reflects positively on the initiatives of the fair. “In 2011, we are still the only fair to have signed the eco-event charter,” he notes. This charter, signed during the inauguration of the 2010 fair, includes six commitments. These involve communication, resources, monitoring, waste sorting, purchasing, and transportation. “We want to raise awareness among as many people as possible, both visitors and exhibitors, and have this fair become a vehicle for the message of ecology and sustainable development,” adds Pierre Paul Leonelli, deputy mayor responsible for cleanliness.
Nice, a pioneer in this field
The furniture, home, and decoration fair is the only event to fully serve the environment from A to Z. “Our efforts genuinely cover every aspect of the fair, from stand setup, communication, and catering to dismantling,” explains Marjorie François, environmental engineer. For the 2010 edition, the numbers are quite promising. “Electricity consumption decreased by nearly 18% compared to 2009, for instance,” she adds. A success, therefore, for this pioneering fair in this field, as it is the only one to act so much for the environment and the only signatory of the eco-event charter along with the Ironman (triathlon).
