The City Council of Nice was held today, this Friday, March 4. The future police station project was notably on the agenda, and the opposition members presented their concerns to the assembly.

Among the topics at the City Council this Friday, March 4, was the project of the future police station that will replace the Saint-Roch hospital. Even though the two opposition groups, the environmentalists and “Retrouver Nice,” are in favor of this project, they nonetheless expressed their concerns about a specific issue.

Indeed, whether from Philippe Vardon’s far-right group or Fabrice Decoupigny’s far-left group, there is a great concern about the impact that the demolition (of the Saint Roch hospital) and then the construction (of the Hôtel des Polices) will have on the Saint Roch neighborhood. Significant repercussions on the economy and the tranquility of the neighborhood are likely to occur.

“The work machinery ballet will have a strong impact on economic activity, and the peace of residents will be undermined. Traffic will be severely affected, including on Boulevard Carabacel,” highlights Thierry Venem, an elected member of the National Rally. On the green side, the focus is first on the raw materials from the demolition. According to environmentalists, over 100,000 tons of debris from Acropolis will need to be removed. “Where are you going to store them? It will be hell for three or four years in this neighborhood,” questions Fabrice Decoupigny.

Anne Ramos, deputy mayor in charge of works in the Azurean city, tried to reassure about the project’s development. “We will try to replicate the method of working closely with local residents. We are establishing traffic plans that can evolve from quarter to quarter…”
