“I want this gallery to regain its former glory,” are the words spoken by the Member of Parliament and Mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, during the inauguration of the brand-new exhibition at the Galerie des Ponchettes, dedicated to the painter Alexis Mossa.
The announcement was made yesterday. After the reopening of the Promenade des Ponchettes in the coming months, the Galerie des Ponchettes will reclaim its original size within four or five years. “One of my predecessors had strived to reduce it and turn it into commercial premises, which was a mistake.”
For several months, the General Council has been pursuing a policy of buying back commercial properties in this part of Quai des Etats-Unis. “I don’t like the restaurant or rather the cooking signs that are currently there, it doesn’t reflect Nice. In the next 5 years, no one will miss this place, it will be entirely dedicated to culture.”
Following the green pathway, it’s now the cultural pathway that will unfold along the sea facing the big blue.
In the meantime, a beautiful exhibition on the theme of light can be discovered until January 2009 at the Galerie des Ponchettes, where Alexis Mossa presents a watercolor contemplation of a variety of Nice’s most remarkable sites.
