On Thursday, May 16, 2024, the inauguration of the Armenian Garden in Nice took place, attended by Christian Estrosi and Mischa Aznavour.
This Thursday, May 16, Christian Estrosi, the mayor of the city of Nice, inaugurated the completion of the Armenian Garden renovations. To mark the occasion, there were a few small performances featuring Armenian dancers. These performances were accompanied by Armenian music.ย
In 2023, the Armenian Garden closed its doors to begin requalification works. The city of Nice had a plan to revitalize the Armenian Garden as part of an environmental initiative. After a year of works, today, 91 trees and 8,000 shrubs have been planted in the garden. To combat climate change, the city of Nice prioritized the use of light-colored materials to renovate the garden. This is in line with the cityโs greening policy led by Mayor Christian Estrosi.
A Place of Memory and Meditation
The Armenian Garden is no longer accessible at all hours. It is enclosed and has specific opening and closing times during the day to respect this site of memory and reflection regarding the Armenian genocide. To show support, Christian Estrosi renamed the main pathway in front of the garden. This pathway is now called the Alley of Artsakh โas a way to show the world our absolute solidarity with Armenia,โ he stated during the inauguration.
Mischa Aznavour was also present as the guest of honor invited by Christian Estrosi. Together, they unveiled a statue of the famous singer Charles Aznavour. This statue, honoring him, stands proudly in the Armenian Garden in a place of memory for the Armenian community.
