A new festival in the spring of 2017 will invigorate tourism on the French Riviera: the Festival of Gardens, an unprecedented and original concept comprising an “IN” section with a competition for ephemeral garden creations and an “OFF” section with garden tours and events.
The IN Festival, a competition aimed at creating an ephemeral garden on an area of about 200 square meters by a team selected through an application process by a technical committee.
For this first edition, 10 gardens will be created, and the best will receive an award.
Based on the engaging theme “Awakening the Senses” — for the fragrance of flowers in Grasse, citrus essences in Menton, the sound of cicadas and the lapping of waves, the scents of Mediterranean plants, or the beauty of landscapes — the ephemeral gardens will be spread across five key garden cities: Grasse, Cannes, Antibes, Nice, and Menton.
It is a technical committee chaired by landscape architect Jean Mus and composed of representatives from professional landscape associations, partner host municipalities, and organizers that selected the ten candidates.
The OFF Festival: a program of events and tours
Alongside the competition, the festival’s climax, public events centered around the gardens will be organized throughout the duration of the festival and across the entire department: floral art workshops and new gardening techniques, tastings, culinary events, professional booths, plant exchange, conferences, exhibitions…
The Festival will take place from April 1 to May 1, 2017.
