Inaugurated in 1892, the Gare du Sud is connected to the urban development of the city of Nice in the second half of the 19th century. It was then closed to the public a century later:
The hall was restored and reassembled in 2019, into what was supposed to be a gourmet, cultural, and lively hall.
The Gare du Sud hall in Nice is once again in turmoil. The city announced this Friday, April 1, its administrative closure for hygiene reasons. A decision made after a health inspection conducted last March and the receipt of reports from microbiological sampling analyses.
Since its installation in 2019, the gourmet hall has continued to decline. Customers are not showing up, despite its location near the famous Libération market.
An administrative dispute is ongoing between the city and the operator. This new development is heading towards the direction of a contract termination.
