A week before the start of the Europétanque (July 19-20-21), the General Council of Alpes-Maritimes, the main sponsor of the event, presented the ambassador teams of the department. Nearly 50,000 spectators are expected to admire more than 3,000 pétanque players, a success that has been growing over the years.

The 13th edition of the Europétanque will gather more than 3,000 players across 5 competitions and nearly 17 represented nations, figures that are up compared to the 2013 edition. “The Europétanque has become a major international event, it gives the city prominence. This competition is a showcase for the Alpes-Maritimes and the city of Nice,” exclaimed the president of the General Council 06, Eric Ciotti.

This Friday, in the gardens of the General Council, the ambassador teams of the department were honored. The 8 teams representing the Alpes-Maritimes received a set of jerseys from Eric Ciotti. New to this 13th edition, 8 local players have earned their spot in the grand precision shooting competition. During the eight stages that hosted hundreds of participants in the department, one place was always qualifying for the Europétanque. The 8 qualifiers received a trophy to acknowledge their performances and earned the right to face the cream of professional shooters.

Last year, the triplet from the General Council composed of Khaled Lakhal, Laurent N’Guyen, and Richard Bettoni won the main competition by defeating the “Dream Team,” which had won 4 times on the Promenade des Anglais.
